HOW DID YOU GET TO BECOME AN EXPERT IN FINTECH?
It was an accident. I never thought I would become one. A few years ago, 2011, when I was working at Banco Santander, I was asked to prepare a paper with to identify the latest innovation and upcoming trends in banking across the world. At that point in time, there were very limited articles and reports about this and it was hard to find them. I kept doing for a long time and I thought that it was good if not only myself but everyone in my network can learn about the topics and insights I discovered. This way other people can apply and use that information into their daily work and banking better. I’ve been doing that ever since. Reading a lot of articles, reports, and surveys and share everything I find interesting with my network and being part of the conversation.
WHAT AREAS OF FINTECH ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?
Customer Experience, Innovation, and Open Banking.
WHICH FINTECH INFLUENCERS INFLUENCE YOU?
The ones that either publish top-notch content, share interesting articles/reports and the ones making a real impact in the financial services industry. Just to name a few of them will be the usual suspects: Brett King, Pascal Bouvier, Spiros Margaris, Duena Blomstrom, Bradley Leimer, Bill Sullivan, Leda Glyptis and Huy Nguyen Trieu.
OUTSIDE OF FINTECH WHAT OTHER TOPICS INTEREST YOU?
Retail and eCommerce, mobility, architecture, and design.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OFFLINE INFLUENCE?
Open and collaborative. I’ve participated in different events, seminars and conferences since 2015 to promote digital banking, Fintech, and innovation I’ve been invited to. I’m planning to start my own blog in 2019 to share my thoughts and ideas about different topics.
WHAT ARE GOING TO BE THE KEY DEVELOPMENTS IN THE INDUSTRY IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?
Open Banking will become a force of nature in financial services. We’ll see a massive explosion in the number APIs available. While many banks will do just the basic to be compliant, some banks will embrace openness and collaboration and will forge new partnerships with Fintech startups and other companies. This “apification” trend will have a huge impact on the industry. 2019 will be the year of collaboration. Banks will realize the massive opportunity of collaborating with Fintech, to fill the gaps. New business models, products and services will be developed. In addition, customer experience will be more relevant than ever. Banks will start to really care about this in the same way Fintech does.
IF A BRAND WANTED TO WORK WITH YOU, WHAT ACTIVITIES WOULD YOU BE MOST INTERESTED IN COLLABORATING ON?
