What is the talk about FTSE?
I was looking at the debate in relation to FTSE and noticed how it has changed in the recent months.
The chart below shows the Share-of-Buzz (relative frequency) of seven issues discussed in relation to FTSE.
Notice how ‘Recession’ and ‘Oil’ was about the same in January and how Oil is now by far the dominant topic (of all seven).

The next chart (below) shows the Share-of-Influence for the same topics (still in context of FTSE). Share-of-Influence is similar to Share-of-Buzz but with the important difference that each contribution in the debate is adjusted with the calculated weight of the ‘voice’ that speaks (aka ‘Influence’).
Notice how ‘Oil’ is much more dominant here, highlighting the fact that those who are more influential in the debate on FTSE are more focused on ‘Oil’ than on the other issues.
It’s also interesting to see that the only thing that remained of (almost) constant importance to those with more influence is the focus on the future.
